We’re delighted to welcome NSCD alumna Zara Lee (she/they) to the role of Student Union Manager.
Zara began their studies with Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2016 on the CertHE Contemporary Dance course, progressing on to the BA course where they graduated in 2021. During her time as a student, Zara was pivotal in establishing our first student-led societies and very involved in our conversations on developing the curriculum.
Within their role as Students’ Union manager, they will manage the day-to-day running of the Union. Zara is excited to see the Students Union grow and blossom with Finlay Copland as the SU President. Together are already making exciting plans for SU managed events and activities, holding student meetings, supporting the growth of student-led societies and amplifying the student voice.
Zara will also be maintaining their work as a freelance dance artist with an interest in creative processes that allow collaboration and a feeling of play.

“The union should be a celebration of being a student, which is why we take care of their needs.
The top priority of the union is to make sure every group of people within NSCD has a space where they feel represented. In order to create a better experience everyone has to feel welcomed.”

“We are excited to welcome Zara back to NSCD to take up the role of Student Union Manager. As a graduate of NSCD Zara is perfectly placed to understand the challenges and priorities of our students. During her time as a student, Zara was pivotal in establishing our first student-led societies and very involved in our conversations on developing the curriculum. She will be combining the SU Manager role alongside her own freelance dance career.
I have no doubt that with her drive, energy and experience that she and our Student Union President, will lead the student union into its next stage. Together they are making exciting plans and setting clear priorities to amplify the student voice as well as develop connections across the city.”
