Celebrated NSCD alumnus Akram Khan performed his 2014 piece “Torobaka” at the Olivier Awards Ceremony this year in honour of renowned French ballet dancer Sylvie Guillem. Khan then presented Guillem with a Special Award to mark her remarkable career to date. Khan, who won an Olivier Award in 2012 for his production “DESH”, leads Akram Khan Company and has collaborated with Guillem artistically during her time at Sadler’s Wells. Another NSCD alumnus, Jason Pennycook, was also nominated for an Olivier in the category of Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his performance in “Memphis the Musical” at Shaftesbury Theatre.
