Raw physicality, breath, voice, the noise of bodies impacting and the sound of feet and limbs on the floor create the score to this new dance work by Tom Dale.
Three dancers unite in an amplified environment. Shotgun microphones, custom made instruments, plate reverbs and amplified boxes capture the rhythms and sounds. Sampled and processed live by composer Jo Wills, the dancers become the band creating a new type of dance music...
Part II: Three Solos by Three Choreographers
A celebration of the instrumental impact of music on contemporary dance, featuring:
SURGE by Tom Dale - Adrenaline charged, awe-inspiring, furious urban contemporary dance performed by one of the UK’s rising stars
Resonance of Air by Eleesha Drennan - Surprising rhythms of bat echolocation set the score for a virtuosic display of visible echoes.
And a new work by Jamaal Burkmar - Soul, rhythm and blues, funk, pop and a classical music infusion inspired by Janelle Monae.

Tom Dale
Tom Dale graduated from Trinity Laban after winning the centre’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography, and danced with Matthew Bourne’s Adventures in Motion Pictures before forming Tom Dale Company. Tom has created all of the company’s work to date, including critically-acclaimed pieces Rise, I Infinite and Digitopia. He was also commissioned to choreograph A New Chimera for Fertile Ground, Dark Clouds are Smouldering into Red with Sinfonia Viva, Subterrania for 2Faced Dance Company and many more.
Eleesha Drennan
Eleesha Drennan is an award-winning choreographer and dance artist based in London. She trained at NSCD and danced and choreographed for National Dance Company Wales from 2004 until 2013. After receiving the prestigious Sky Academy Arts scholarship, she founded Eleesha Drennan Dance. She is an inaugural FreeSpace Artist at Studio Wayne McGregor, and has worked with internationally renowned choreographers including Ohad Naharin, Christopher Bruce and Itzik Galili.
Jamaal Burkmar
NSCD graduate Jamaal Burkmar has been choreographing work since 2012; his first creation Ocean was commissioned by Gianluca Vincentini, then recommissioned for NSCD postgraduate company VERVE. Since then, Jamaal has been awarded the New Adventures Choreographer Award, won the inaugural DanceXchange Choreographic Award and received the Trailblazers fellowship through One Dance UK. He recently worked on site-specific project Theatre Rites for the Manchester International Festival and the Ruhrtriennalle music festival in Germany.
