EDITIONS: A NEW SERIES OF DIGITAL DANCE WORKS

Monday 15th June 2020, 9:19am Editions: a new series of digital dance works

Final year BA (Hons) students at Northern School of Contemporary Dance have worked with choreographers Eleanor Sikorski, Lea Anderson MBE, and NSCD Lecturer Dr Joseph Mercier to create three brand new digital commissions.

The results of their work - Editions, will be published online and across NSCD social media at 7.30pm on Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 June.

Visit the Editions site to find out more and to watch the works in one place after their initial release.

Co-founder of leading contemporary dance companies The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs, Lea Anderson MBE, has worked with students to curate an online gallery of short clips. Exploring the internet phenomena of how-to videos, each performance will recreate an instructional video on activities as varied as dancing, chess, pageant-walking and juggling, and flip them on their head.

Dancer, choreographer and filmmaker Eleanor Sikorski presents a short film created from footage recorded in the dancer’s bedrooms, exploring various textures, framing techniques and webcam aesthetics. With voiceover text written by the students, this moving and poetic piece explores connection in times of isolation.

Dr Joseph Mercier is a lecturer in Creative & Contextual Studies at NSCD and co-founder of performing arts company PanicLab. In his mockumentary miniseries, we follow a fictional dance company attempting to stage, rehearse and perform a new work during lockdown. Hidden cameras and talking heads give a fly-on-the-wall perspective – is there method in the madness or will the whole thing end in chaos?
