The new MA in Dance and Creative Enterprise* enables artists to understand the business of dance. It focuses on supporting graduates and professionals at varying stages of their careers to evolve their artistic practice, whilst gaining further understanding of its value as a creative enterprise. The programme enables students to gain a broader perspective on the arts sector, realise their ideas and find a potential market for their work. The modules are taught over one year (full time) at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds and culminate in a research project, drawing on themes explored within the course.
The MA examines artistic principles and theoretical concepts closely related to the art form, as well as the practices of project management, funding within the arts, audience engagement, publicity and marketing (including digital technologies) and practice as research.
Janet Smith MBE, Artistic Director & Principal of NSCD said “We recognise the challenges dance artists face at different points in their careers. This course is designed to help artists best position and pursue their practice, within the wider contexts of the creative industries and acquire the skills and attributes necessary to build sustainable careers as creators and producers.”
