At the Riley Theatre, Workshops
Now in its fifth edition, Dance2Connect is a unique festival dedicated to creating spaces that merge Street Dance and Contemporary Dance.
Hosted for the very first time at NSCD, this year there are a variety of events to get involved in or observe, including workshops, battles, performances at Riley Theatre and more.

ALL STYLE 7 TO SMOKE BATTLE – UNDER 18S
12pm – 2pm
An open arena/cypher to share your best moves!
Suitable for Under 18s
All dance styles welcome
Entry fee for competitors/observers:
£10 (£8 concession for U18s, students and unwaged)
Tickets for the All Style 7 to Smoke Battle will also give you access to watch the afternoon Experimental Battle.
2pm – 6pm
The Experimental Battle aims to create a space for curiosity, play and exchange of movement practices and welcomes dancers from all dance styles.
All dance styles welcome, accompanied by a DJ & Live Musicians.

Tickets to the Experimental Battle will also give you access to watch the U18s All Styles 7 to Smoke Battle.

Performances created by artists across the UK who explore the boundaries between street dance, contemporary dance and other movement practices:
Plus a special performance from students on NSCD’s CertHE Cultural Dance Forms course.

The second day of the festival will host a range of workshops led by Dance2Connect invited artists, judges and performers. These workshops are a unique opportunity to push your creative practice, develop your technique and expand your creativity across various dance styles.
All workshops are suitable for ages 12+ and open to all abilities.

10.30am – 12pm
Led by Matt Szczerek and Jack Bain from Human Collective. This workshop will explore and share elements of their practice including object manipulation, krump, house and body contact. Through this workshop Human Collective aim to broaden your practice and encourage play and exploration within a safe environment.

In the first of two workshops, renowned IndaHouse artists Clara Bajado and Troy (DatBoitroy) will teach 45 minutes of class. These workshops provide an opportunity to learn from experts within hip hop and house movement, each bringing their own research and developed practices to the studio.
12.15pm – 1.45pm
This second IndaHouse workshop is led by Frankie J (The Red Head House Head). These workshops provide an opportunity to learn from experts within hip hop and house movement, each bringing their own research and developed practices to the studio.
12.15pm – 1.45pm
Amanda Pefkou will be with us to share her expertise in krump, hip hop and creative practice, moving through deep-rooted movement and an exploration of her unique style.
BOOK2pm – 3.30pm
Antonio Bukhar is Course Leader for the CertHE Cultural Dance Forms course at NSCD. With a wealth of knowledge across choreography, performing and educating, his dance styles include breakdance, hip hop, dancehall, contemporary and Afro-fusion. This workshop will give an insight into his teaching and movement practices in a fun and challenging environment.
