Exposing the hostile environment in the UK

Hostile is a compelling BAFTA-longlisted documentary written, produced and directed by Sonita Gale. Told from the perspective of four individuals from Black and Asian backgrounds, the film reveals the personal stories behind the UK government's 'hostile environment' policies, designed to make living conditions so difficult for migrants that they voluntarily leave the country.

What does it mean to be British? How does it feel to be told you don’t belong?

From archive footage and contemporary testimony, we learn about the direct impact of these policies on everyday life.  In particular, we follow Daksha, a community organiser who runs her own kitchen to support vulnerable people.

Featuring music from award-winning musician Nitin Sawhney and spoken word from George the Poet.
