SUMMER SCHOOL 2024 ARTISTS ANNOUNCED

Thursday 13th June 2024, 2:39pm Summer School 2024 Artists Announced

 

We're thrilled to announce the line-up of artists who will be teaching on this year's Summer School. From Monday 29 July - Friday 2 August, each artist will lead technique classes, explore choreographic approaches, and collaborate with their assigned groups to create a piece to showcase to family and friends at the end of the week.

This year, students will be working with the following artists:

Catrina Nisbett - Strand 1 (ages 12-14)

George Burton - Strand 2 (ages 15-17)

Tory East - Strand 2 (ages 15-17)

Sandrine Monin - Strand 3 (ages 18+)

Catrina Nisbett

Cat Nisbett or ‘Catnis’ as she is more commonly known, is an Olivier Award-nominated dance artist who has worked extensively with Spoken Movement and taught for Koby Leeds. Catnis graduated from NSCD’s Access to HE (now CertHE) course in 2017.

Growing up a ‘CODA’, a child of Deaf adults, Catnis was inspired to create Deaf Jam Fitness, a dance fitness class set out to improve the health and well-being of the Deaf community through music, dance and social interaction. Workshops are delivered using enjoyable easy-to-follow hip-hop style dance exercises, communicated in British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken English.

George Burton

George began dancing at 16 with Zoielogic then studied at Northern School of Contemporary Dance achieving a first-class BA (Hons) in 2022. He was fortunate enough to work with choreographers such as Mathieu Geffre, Akram Khan, and Douglas Thorpe.

George then furthered his training by completing a postgraduate degree touring with VERVE at NSCD, where he performed original works by Faye Tan and Kor’sia under the guidance of artistic director Matteo Marfoglia.

Since graduating George has been expanding his performance portfolio completing works at festivals, and delving more into teaching.

 

 

 

Tory East

Tory East trained at London Contemporary Dance School, graduating with a first-class BA (Hons). During her training, Tory performed in works by Kerry Nicholls, Henri Oguiku, Richard Alston, Jiri Kylian and a reworking of Jeremy JamesMy Big Pants’.

In 2006 she toured nationally and internationally with the Postgraduate Company EDge, performing in works by Trisha Brown, Siobhan Davies and Sue MacLennan. Tory was a dancer with Retina Dance Company under the artistic direction of Filip Van Huffel. She has also worked with Victoria Fox, Zoielogic Dance Theatre and Jam Jar Dance Theatre.

Tory has extensive teaching experience and has been a guest artist for numerous institutions including NSCD, Rambert School, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre and The University of Winchester. She is currently an Associate Lecturer at the University of Chichester and has been nominated for the One Dance UK Young Peoples Champion award.

 

 

 

Sandrine Monin

Sandrine graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon in France then went on to study a Master’s degree in Dance Practice in 2010 at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, Germany and an MA in Choreography at the Central School of Ballet, London.

She has since been a professional dancer with over 15 years of experience working with internationally renowned companies and choreographers including Gärtnerplatz Teater, Phoenix Dance Theatre, William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Christopher Bruce and Itzik Galili.

Throughout her career, she has been developing her own choreographic work supported by Arts Council England and the Genesis Foundation. Her first-ever professional work (Calyx, Phoenix Dance Theatre) was nominated for ‘Best Premiere’ in Dance Europe Magazine and toured around the UK, Europe and China. She has since created for dance and theatre companies, youth groups and for the screen.
