“The two things that have always felt instinctive to me are creating art and creating order – I have made visual art for as long as I can remember and have always enjoyed organisational tasks. Working at NSCD part time gives me the perfect balance of these two things; I get to fulfil a role that utilises my administrative strengths within a creative environment, whilst also allowing me to build my creative practice on my non-working days.
Outside of work I have two young children and a dog to keep me busy! As a parent of a disabled child I have started to see the world from a different perspective and have a keen interest in inclusion and representation of people with different needs, particularly within the arts. My daughter loves to dance in her wheelchair and seeing her enjoying the Saturday School classes at NSCD is one of the highlights of my week!”
As the Quality Manager at NSCD, Elizabeth plays a critical role in curriculum development by ensuring that educational programs meet high standards of academic rigor and align with institutional goals through the validation administration process, and monitoring of achievements and actions. She provides input on the design, structure, and content of the curriculum, in the writing and validation, and review processes to ensure it complies with quality frameworks and accreditation standards. This oversight includes reviewing course materials, assessment methods, and student outcomes to guarantee that the curriculum fosters an excellent learning experience. She also collaborates with faculty to implement best practices through her committee secretary roles to monitor progress, and identify areas for continuous improvement, ensuring that the curriculum evolves in response to feedback and changes in industry trends.
After graduating in 2010 Elizabeth completed an internship at Site Gallery in Sheffield, which sparked an interest in arts administration, followed by a short term contract as a Production Assistant for Point Blank Theatre Company. She joined NSCD in 2012 as Assistant Academic Administrator, providing broad administration support across the HE programmes. Her role has developed over the years to become focused on assessment administration in her current role as Quality & Assessment Officer.
She has continued her creative practice as a visual artist alongside her role at NSCD, spending time exploring different artforms before specialising in drawing in 2016. Whilst she works mostly on commission, she has also had artwork exhibited in galleries and art trails across Yorkshire and online, has been longlisted for two art prizes, and has had work featured in arts publications online and in print.
