Accessibility Information for Visitors

At NSCD, we aim to make our building as welcoming and accessible as possible. Here you can find useful information when planning your visit.

NSCD is a Grade 2 listed building, which means that NSCD cannot alter the main structure of the building however, we are committed to ensuring that our work and activities are inclusive, welcoming, and open to everyone, removing barriers and fostering meaningful connections with diverse communities. Accessibility is at the heart of everything we do, and we aim to inspire and engage all who connect with us.

First Aid / Safeguarding

Many of NSCD’s staff are trained first aiders and trained in safeguarding.

Posters with the trained staff members’ names and photographs are displayed throughout the building.

If you need support, inform the nearest staff member, reception or student services.

Accommodation

If you need a place to stay whilst visiting NSCD, we recommend:

  • Premier Inn, Leeds City Centre (Leeds Arena) hotel – 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive/taxi. MAP
  • Ibis Styles Leeds City Centre Arena – 25-minute walk or 5-minute drive/taxi.
  • Travelodge Leeds Central – 35-minute walk or 10-minute drive/taxi.A  5-minute walk from Leeds train station
  • Hampton by Hilton, Leeds City Centre – 25-minute walk or 10-minute drive/taxi.
  • EasyHotel, Leeds City Centre – 30-minute walk or 10-minute drive/taxi.
  • Art Hostel – 25-minute walk or 10-minute drive/taxi. The Arts Hostel has a dedicated Sensory Safe Space Room, specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. This room provides a calming and secure environment.

During term time reception is open:

Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm & 5:30-6:30pm

Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm

Out of term time:

Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm

Please check during national holidays.

Evacuation procedure 

If you are in the building and hear the alarm, please make your way out of the nearest exit & gather at the bottom of Leopold Street.  

In the event of an emergency, please do not use the lifts.  

NSCD will endeavour to ensure that wheelchair users or those who cannot use stairs, are based on the ground floor, which is why you may be asked if you have any access requirements when you sign up for an NSCD event.
