LOOKING AHEAD TO NSCD KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE CONFERENCE

Wednesday 18th December 2024, 10:36am Looking ahead to NSCD Knowledge Exchange Conference

Now in its third year, the annual NSCD Knowledge Exchange Conference will take place on 8th January 2025. This gathering has become a vibrant platform for dialogue, collaboration and innovation across disciplines and is a reminder that creativity is not just a luxury – rather an essential resource for problem-solving, resilience and progress.

This year’s theme - Igniting Creativity: Art, Education, Transformation and Change - will bring together artists, educators and creatives to explore the intersections of art, education and policy. The conference aims to inspire innovative approaches to societal challenges, emphasising the role of the arts in shaping inclusive and progressive policies.

In today’s rapidly changing world, art and education are crucial. The conference will explore how art can drive transformation in both the classroom and society. NSCD believes creativity can shape individuals, communities, and challenge societal norms, making this conference a platform for igniting change through artistic practice.

Sessions will include discussions around Commercial Dance and the Metamodernism, Reimagining Aesthetic Education for the 21st century, Coaching Intrapersonal Intelligence Through Reflective Practice, The Future of Critical Dance Pedagogy and also Sparking Creativity & Innovation Through Learning Guides and Resources.

Darren Carr, Vice Principal & Director of Higher Education at NSCD said:

Building on NSCD's proud history of collaboration and working with others, the Igniting Creativity: Art, Education, Transformation, and Change conference celebrates our ongoing commitment to knowledge exchange. This gathering is a vital opportunity to spark bold ideas, foster artistic growth, and inspire meaningful change together, amplifying the transformative power of collective creativity in Higher education, the arts and policy making.  I was truly inspired by the incredible range of submissions for the conference. The diversity of ideas, perspectives, and innovative approaches reflects a vibrant community of practitioners and thinkers, all united by a shared passion for the transformative power of the arts and education. It’s a testament to the depth of creativity and collaboration that this event seeks to celebrate and amplify.”

Conference Keynote speaker Helen Pheby, Head of Culture, Heritage and Sport, West Yorkshire Combined Authority commented:

“West Yorkshire has a rich educational heritage that celebrates the benefits of nurturing creativity in everyone. It's the perfect place to be discussing the importance of creativity, problem solving and innovation in the world today and for our tomorrows.”
