NSCD GRADUATES SELECTED FOR THE PLACE’S CHOREODROME 2021

Thursday 15th April 2021, 12:09pm NSCD Graduates selected for The Place’s Choreodrome 2021

Northern School of Contemporary Dance is proud to share news that two of our graduates have been selected for this year's edition of Choreodrome at The Place.

Ruby Portus is a Leeds-based performer and choreographer who completed the MA Contemporary Dance Performance (VERVE) here at NSCD in 2018. Later that year Ruby was selected as one of Sadler's Wells Young Associates. More recently she participated in the Accelerate programme run by NSCD and Yorkshire Dance. Ruby creates light-hearted dance theatre work with a social conscience. For Choreodrome she is creating a children's work about the disappearance of bees and what individuals can do to help them.

Akshay Sharma completed the undergraduate programme at NSCD in 2017.  In 2019 he was one of 3 artists selected for Northern Connections, our artist development programme for emerging regional dance makers, during which he premiered improvisational work ‘A Fragile Geography’. For Choreodrome, Akshay will be creating a new solo work around the notion of rupture inspired by the surface of the earth.
