NSCD PROVIDES WELLBEING SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS DURING LOCKDOWN

Wednesday 4th November 2020, 4:27pm NSCD provides wellbeing support for students during lockdown

NSCD is dedicated to looking after students' mental health and wellbeing, as well as physical health.

As the country enters a second lockdown, under the new guidelines for places of Higher Education students will continue to access our blended method of face-to face teaching and online learning.

Students may be feeling higher levels of anxiety, frustration and loneliness than usual, and NSCD offers lots of free support to help alleviate and manage these difficult feelings.

Here is a look at what's available to students in need of extra support:

Free counselling service

We have a small team of counsellors offering confidential Zoom appointments throughout the week. Students can access the counselling service by booking an appointment via Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment. One appointment can be used to get something off your chest, or multiple appointments can be arranged to help work through a problem and develop coping strategies.

The Wellbeing Team is also hoping to offer some anxiety and panic management webinars over the next half term – more details to follow.

Togetherall

CDD students who are struggling with their mental health can access free online support through Togetherall (previously known as Big White Wall). Users have access to an anonymous online community for support with sleep issues, low mood or stress and anxiety. Clinically managed, trained professionals are on hand 24/7 to help those in need of extra support.

StudentSpace

StudentSpace offers various wellbeing resources and advice, including tips on improving sleeping patterns and advice on living in social bubbles. Trained volunteers give free support over telephone and email.

The Mix

Designed to help under 25s with relationships, body issues, housing, studying, money and more, The Mix is a free one-to-one chatline. The crisis messenger service can be accessed 24/7 by texting THEMIX to 85258 if you are feeling in crisis.

Feel Better Leeds

Feel Better Leeds is an NHS support service which provides self-help resources and Covid-19 advice, as well as a directory of mental health services and resources available across the city.
