It is with deepest sympathy that we mark the passing of Stanley Ellwood, one of our former Governors and longstanding supporters.
Stanley was a beacon of compassion. Known for his boundless empathy and kindness, Stanley's life was defined by his unwavering dedication to helping others. He is warmly remembered as a distinguished Governor of Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) and a fervent advocate for dance, artists and students in Leeds.
During his tenure as a Governor and beyond, Stanley demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the arts, fostering a nurturing environment that enabled countless students to pursue their passion for dance. Over the years, Stanley and his partner Paul were regular attenders at NSCD student events and galas, and regular donors to NSCD's hardship fund. Together with Paul, Stanley's tireless support as a campaigner and patron helped to bolster NSCD's reputation, ensuring it remains a premier institution for contemporary dance education today.
His legacy is evident in the thriving arts community of Leeds, where his contributions have left an indelible mark, inspiring future generations of dancers and arts supporters. His presence at performances and in the vibrant hub of our dance community will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Paul and his family during this difficult time.
