On Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 June, tune in to the NSCD Facebook page for two special live broadcasts from our postgraduate company VERVE. As many of VERVE’s scheduled tour dates were cancelled this year, this digital finale provides a unique opportunity to experience the choreography of two acclaimed artists.
At 8.15pm each night, we will present a live broadcast from the company's 2020 repertoire: firstly White Lies by Olivier-Award-winning choreographer Botis Seva on 10 June, and secondly Shelter by prolific Catalan choreographer Lali Ayguadé on 11 June, both filmed on the Riley Theatre stage before lockdown. This is viewers’ only chance to catch the 14 exceptional company dancers in action as the videos will be taken down from the NSCD Facebook page after each broadcast ends.
Acclaimed dance-theatre maker Botis Seva is the founder of Far From the Norm, and won the 2019 Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production with BLKDOG. In White Lies he draws from his Hip-Hop background to craft a physical language that is distinctly his own. Set to a pulsating original score by Torben Lars Sylvest, the work is full of contrasts, unrestrained physical power and poetic delicacy.
Sought-after Catalan choreographer Lali Ayguadé won the London Critics’ Circle Award for Best Creator. In her new work Shelter we enter a small town full of secrets, its inhabitants occupied by blind belief. Physically complex and articulate, the work continuously deconstructs the images it presents.
Each night will also feature interviews with choreographer Botis Seva, Artistic Director Matthew Robinson and the dancers, giving an insight into company life.
