Crystal Zillwood is a dance choreographer, performer and teacher. She has worked with a multitude of choreographers including Liz Roche, Theo Clinkard and Ben Wright, who described her work as “exquisitely delicate yet thunderously powerful”. As CATAPULT Artist 2016 she successfully applied for Arts Council funding which supported the creation of her triple bill Spirals.
“Being a CATAPULT artist has been invaluable to my work. CATAPULT gave me support, advice and really got the ball rolling to help further develop my practice. The programme provided the opportunity to learn and the time to develop my work, which received financial backing from Grants for the Arts. It was a wonderful experience and I am still reaping the benefits.
I made long lasting connections in the industry and with venues, and gained further understanding of the other side of making work, such as production and promotion. I learnt more about promoting to venues and applying for bigger platform opportunities. Being a CATAPULT artist gave me the time to create my triple bill Spirals, which included the solo ‘These Hands’ which was developed with the programme’s support. I received guidance to help me write my Arts Council application and I was able to work with Theo Clinkard, who was the artistic mentor for ‘These Hands’.
CATAPULT gave me so much support and encouragement and to this day, I still feel supported by Northern School and Spin Arts. It is a strong and long lasting relationship which I’m proud to have.”
