Role and responsibilities:
Emma is responsible for managing the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT). Her main responsibilities include strategic overview, curriculum planning and development, recruitment of core staff, guest artists and students, and student pastoral support.
Emma delivers across complementary subjects for current CAT students as well as facilitating and delivering on the outreach and recruitment work across Yorkshire.
Emma is originally from the North East of England, she grew up as a competitive acrobatic gymnast and didn’t take her first dance class until secondary school. Emma formally studied dance at GCSE, throughout further college and on the Centre of Advanced Training Programme at Dance City Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
Emma completed her undergraduate training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, after graduating she worked as a freelance dance artist across the North East and was part of Fertile Ground Dance Company, working with James Wilton, Gosia Dzierzon and Dora Frankel. Her passion for teaching and facilitating dance grew and she pursued her teacher training at Newcastle University.
Emma has experience teaching dance to all key stages, further education, and university level. She has led on AQA GCSE Dance, BTEC Awards and Higher National Diplomas courses. Her past roles have included Lead Practitioner and Head of Dance, responsible for creating dance curriculum, assessments, and analysing data. She is passionate about bringing her high-level pastoral experience to the CAT students to support their progress and welfare.
