George Swattridge - Northern School of Contemporary Dance

GEORGE SWATTRIDGE

George is in constant question as to why people do the things they do. Growing up in Herefordshire, his first performance was as Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio the Musical at primary school. Since then he became far too fidgety to continue with the musical theatre scene and decided to pursue dance, with 2Faced Youth. Via a convoluted route, he then ended up at NSCD, a place that he has considered home for the past 3 years. Along the way he has worked with the likes of Phil Sanger, Patricia Okenwa, Fernanda Prata, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Lea Anderson MBE. He also co-founded the physical theatre company ‘Yoodaloo’, who create both politically satirical and child-friendly work. Furthermore, in an attempt to get as far away from Herefordshire as possible he qualified as a yoga teacher in India last year. George’s favourite hobby is hand balancing, and on stage he has sung into a shoe, juggled, rode a unicycle back and forth, smothered himself in watermelon, cooked an egg and thrusted for 2 minutes straight. He is confident that with his strangely specific skill set he will find a way in the world.
