How to apply

Thank you for your interest in MA Teaching & Facilitating (Creative Subjects)


Entry for this course is by online application, teaching observation and interview. Applicants have the choice between in-person or video application.

Please note: an enhanced DBS check is required for those working with children and young people whilst on placement. This is processed on your behalf by NSCD.

For in-person observations and interviews please apply by:

  • Sunday 09 February for observations and interview week commencing Monday 17 February
  • Sunday 18 May for observations and interview week commencing Tuesday 27 May

For all video applications please apply by:

  • Sunday 01 June

In-person

Making your application

Applicants are required to create an account via our online application portal and complete an application. You will need to provide:

  1. Personal details 
  2. Current highest academic qualification
  3. Personal statement (500-1000 words) which addresses:
    1. Your teaching experience to date
    2. Your motivation for studying this course
    3. Your ambitions for the future in relation to teaching practice
  4. Details on your preferences for the in-person observation i.e. the ideal age range, what you plan on teaching, any other comments, and your preferred date within the weeks listed above.
  5. A reference 
  6. Equality and Diversity information

Once you submit your application you will be required to pay the application fee.

Application fee

The application fee is a one-off payment of £20 and covers the cost of processing applications.

Instructions on how to make payment will be included in your confirmation email.

Applications without payment will not be considered. 

If you are applying for more than one course please contact admissions@nscd.ac.uk and you will be issued with a code to use at checkout to ensure you only pay the application fee once.

 

In-person observation and interview

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to teach at NSCD, followed by an interview. The teaching will last around 30 minutes followed by a break then the interview which will last for 25 – 30 minutes.

The panel will ask you to reflect on the teaching session and ask the following:

  • Tell us about your experience and ideas around teaching dance
  • Why you are interested in studying at NSCD?
  • What do you hope to gain from the course?
Outcomes

In-person outcomes are communicated within 2 weeks of the interview, though we aim to let applicants know as soon as possible. Video applications are viewed on a rolling basis and therefore outcomes will be communicated as and when submissions are viewed and interviews have taken place.

Please note: If you do not have footage of yourself teaching a class then please record a 30-minute video of yourself doing a tutorial, as if you were teaching a class. If you have any questions or need any guidance then please contact admissions@nscd.ac.uk

Video Application & Interview

Video applicants need to submit a link to a 30-minute video recording of a class they recently taught as part of their application. We look for evidence of:

  • clear and appropriate planning
  • considerations relating to safe practice
  • inclusive teaching approaches/differentiation
  • appropriate use of resources
  • general teaching approach/strategies

We contact all video applicants after application submission to arrange an interview over Zoom. During the interview, we’ll ask you to reflect on the session in your video, ask you to tell us about your experience and ideas around teaching dance, and ask why you are interested in studying at NSCD and what you hope to gain from the course.

Outcomes
