NSCD Summer School

Monday 28 July – Friday 1 August 2025

10am – 4pm each day

Our five-day summer school is a practical, creative and challenging experience for young dancers aged 12-17 (open level) and adults aged 18+ (dance students, graduates & professionals).

Delivered by NSCD lecturing staff, alumni and associate artists, the NSCD Summer School gives dancers an insight into life at NSCD, through the opportunity to:

  • Take daily technique classes and creative sessions
  • Meet and work with other keen like-minded dancers
  • Perform at our on-site venue, Riley Theatre
  • Engage with staff, students and artists at NSCD

Summer School Groups

There are 3 strands of the NSCD Summer School:

Strand 1 for ages 12-14

Strand 2 for ages 15-17

Strand 3 for ages 18+ (advanced level, including dance students and graduates)

SCHEDULE

Our Summer School features a daily contemporary dance technique class in the morning delivered by the Summer School Guest Artists, followed by creative sessions in the afternoon working alongside a professional dance artist to devise a piece, to be performed on the final day as part of an informal sharing at the Riley Theatre, NSCD.

For those interested in applying for our range of full-time and part-time courses there is the option to attend a Progression Routes Session across the week, as well as an Insight Session delivered by our Head of Undergraduate Studies – Matthew Slater.

ACCOMMODATION & TRAVEL

Unfortunately, NSCD is unable to provide accommodation for Summer School participants, and those travelling from further afield will need to arrange their own accommodation for the week.

NSCD is located close to Leeds City Centre and a range of affordable accommodation, including Premier Inn and Travelodge.
